New Paints
Yipee! My new paints have finally arrived from Cheap Joes. I purchased six artist watercolors made by Winsor Newton ( in their "primary" line which they no longer recommend at least I couldn't find it on their website anymore). I purchased two reds, yellows ( warm and cool hues) and burnt umber and sienna, which in theory I can mix any color (except white) . I had found the blues in that line at Hobby Lobby a while ago, so I already had the blues I needed. I have been using their Cotman line for years and finally decided to break down and take my art to a " new level" and use artist quality paint. Now don't get me wrong, the student quality suits me just fine and I am not giving it up. And so far, I see no reason to spend more money on "artist quality" paint. I did color charts on my tried and true paints vs the new ones. And honestly the color difference wasn't really noticeable( of course I used cheap paper on the color studies which made both grades look like crap). I am going to redo the studies on Strathmore 400 series paper( I love Strathmore paper - the 400 series is the best that manufacturer has and it is inexpensive good quality paper.) That being said, I should get to work on those color studies and see what happens. <3
